There are weeks when everything goes according to plan.
This was not one of those weeks.
I started with a clear mission: use the quiet time to push Valkyrie Inspirations forward. Finish more of the Five-Week Forge. Record content. Build out The Bellows. Schedule enough work ahead that I could finally breathe without wondering what needed to be posted tomorrow.
Then life took the plan, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it directly into the campfire.
The quiet gave my mind room to wander into some old chapters this week.
I found myself questioning past decisions, measuring today’s life against roads that closed years ago, and carrying weight that had no business following me into the present.
For a couple of days, I wasn’t forging much of anything.
But here is what I’m learning:
A quiet forge is not an abandoned forge.
A dim ember is not a dead fire.
Sometimes, returning begins with something incredibly small.
I stepped outside.
I pruned the garden. Picked peppers. Found seven yellow watermelons growing beneath vines that had become so tangled I nearly forgot what was hiding underneath them.
There was something fitting about that.
While I was focused on everything I believed had gone wrong, life had been quietly growing beneath the leaves.
Then I came back inside and returned to the work.
Not perfectly. Not with some grand movie-scene comeback.
I simply returned.
By the end of the week, Episodes 005 through 009 of The Bellows were recorded, edited, prepared, and scheduled. Teaser reels were created. Captions were written. Spotify, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram were lined up.
One of our YouTube Shorts crossed 1,000 views.
The Daily Forge was printed and placed in my hands instead of living as another unfinished idea on a screen.
The garden was cleaned up.
More peppers were preserved.
And somewhere between the fire crackling behind a podcast episode and the vines wrapped around those hidden watermelons, I realized something:
Progress does not always look like following the plan.
Sometimes, progress is refusing to let one difficult chapter become the ending.
This week didn’t go the way I wanted it to.
But the fire didn’t go out.
Maybe your week wandered away from the plan too. Maybe you fell behind, lost your rhythm, or spent more time surviving than building.
That does not erase what you have already forged.
You do not have to recover the entire week tonight.
Choose one small return.
Send the message. Wash the dish. Take the walk. Write the paragraph. Sit in the stillness long enough to hear yourself again.
One honest strike is enough to wake the forge.
If you need somewhere to begin tracking those small returns, Confidence Leaves Tracks was created for exactly that purpose—because the proof that you are rebuilding is often already there.
You just have to slow down long enough to see it.

The fire is still yours.
What is one small way you can return to yourself today?
